Mojaloop Phase Four (PI-10) Convening – Online Event!

by Dr. Warren Carew in Events , Financial Inclusion , Mojaloop , Open Source 0 comments

We are excited to participate in another Mojaloop Community Meeting being held April 20-24, 2020

Mojaloop is the world’s first open source platform for interoperability in a real-time payment network. We helped build it with the purpose of driving financial inclusion. During this time of social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for access to digital currency and interoperability for the poorest has been brought into sharp focus. Regulators, mobile money, and card payment companies are all playing their part by changing regulation limits and fees to assist social distancing in countries around the globe. The rapid deployment of an interoperable solution like Mojaloop can amplify the impact of individual players. The efforts of the community at this convening can have a significant impact.

A little about Mojaloop Convenings

Hosted by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Mojaloop convenings take place once per quarter and, like Mojaloop, are open to all.

April’s gathering, the first convening that will be hosted as a 100% online event, will be a review of what’s new to the Mojaloop project during program increment 9 (PI-9) and what to look forward to as the team moves into PI-10. The ModusBox team will be focused on sharing updates from our team on progress since the last convening held in January of this year. We have been hard at work to build out the Mojaloop Partner Program that was announced at that time and will share some exciting news with the community next week!

The Mojaloop Partner Program

Spoiler alert. We’ll be formally rolling out our Mojaloop Partner Program! It is designed to be an enablement partnership with Modusbox and a technical accelerator for Mojaloop. By partnering, you join the wider Mojaloop community to promote responsible and sustainable, real-time payments – a key step towards financial inclusion.

Whether you’re a hub operator, technology provider, or just trying to understand Mojaloop, we have a training course for you. Our goal is to help you understand the importance of the role you play in the Mojaloop ecosystem and help tailor your expertise to the needs of this system.

Stay tuned! We’ll have more information during the convening about this program.

What else to look forward to?

These are just a few of the exciting conversations we’re looking forward to during this event.

Update on PISP from Google Pay

During the last community meeting, Google Pay presented a proposal to extend Mojaloop to support Payment Initiation Service Providers (PISP). Google will provide an update to this collaborative initiative that will include design changes, change proposals, and the roadmap. We’re excited about this effort as it helps to equalize the playing field for those using the latest mobile money wallets or traditional banking services.

Community member updates

One of the most beneficial elements of the quarterly Mojaloop convenings are updates from other teams and members of the OSS community. This quarter, we’re excited to hear updates from Mowali, Mifos, Snapp, Sybrin, and others. Our team will showcase some open source contributions and products including a future roadmap.

Join us and say hi!

Please join us for this online experience. We need a sense of community and belonging now more than ever. As the saying goes, “the more the merrier.”  If you would like to join, just send us a note.

During the event, don’t hesitate to reach out to any of the ModusBox crew to say hello and make a connection. We are truly proud to be a part of this community and to have the opportunity and privilege to participate in the development of Mojaloop. We would love to hear about what you and your team are working on and how we can support your efforts.

If you aren’t able to make it to the convening, our site has a lot of new information and resources and we continue to add and update content frequently. You can get started with information on the impact that Real-Time Payments and Mojaloop can have on our world. And, if you would like to join us on our mission, learn more about our Mojaloop Partner Program and get in touch.

We’ll see you online!
